The systemic discrimination faced by communities of color in New York leaves them among the most vulnerable when it comes to the economic impacts of COVID-19. Join us for a conversation with Christine C. Quinn about the steps that government and businesses should take to keep people in stable homes and communities intact amidst the potential housing fallout from the pandemic, as well as the broader issue of equitable distribution of city resources.

Christine C. Quinn
President and CEO at Win
Christine became President and CEO of Win in 2015. Prior to Win, she served as Special Advisor to Governor Andrew Cuomo focusing on women’s issues across New York State. Quinn served as a member of the New York City council from 1999-2013 and served for 7 years as the elected Speaker of the New York City Council, making her the first woman and the first openly gay Speaker – as well as highest-ranking openly gay official in City history. Prior to serving in elected office she was the Chief of Staff to New York City Councilmember Tom Duane, and was Executive Director of the Anti-Violence Project. Christine Quinn currently serves on the board of Athlete Ally, an organization dedicated to ending homophobia and transphobia in sports, and NARAL Pro-Choice New York. She recently served as a Harvard University Institute of Politics Spring 2015 Fellow.
Rachel Diller ’99
Managing Partner at UrbanView Capital and Former Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School
Rachel Diller is Managing Partner of UrbanView Capital, a specialist fund management platform which is dedicated to sustainable real estate investing. Previously, she was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs in the firm’s Urban Investment Group (UIG), a principal investing platform that deploys capital to underserved domestic urban markets. At Goldman, Ms. Diller was responsible for the group’s national lending and investing, deploying over $750 million of capital into public-private financed projects. Prior to joining Goldman in 2009, Rachel was a Managing Director in the Commercial Real Estate Group of Centerline Capital Group, where she led the affordable housing lending businesses and was responsible for financing over $1 billion of commercial real estate in 18 states. Rachel began her career as a New York City Urban Fellow, developing transitional housing projects for New York City’s Department of Homeless Services, where she was the Director of Facility, Planning and Development. Ms. Diller serves on the board of Corporation for Supportive Housing and has taught as an Adjunct Professor in Columbia Business School’s Real Estate MBA Program. Ms. Diller earned a BA in Urban Studies from University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Claire Kao was the Class of 2020 Senator representing Columbia Business School. On Senate, she co-chaired the Commission on Diversity and served as Vice Chair of the Student Affairs Committee. In these roles, she was able to coordinate joint committee support of a resolution to recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day at Columbia and also work closely with University administrators on the University's COVID-19 response. At the Business School, she was active in CBS Reflects and the Real Estate Association. Kao also chairs a junior board for the Crime Victims Treatment Center (CVTC), an organization dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. CVTC now facilitates workshops at the Business School and participates in orientation in order to help establish a strong culture of sexual respect at the school. Prior to business school, Claire spent four years working in high-rise commercial construction management, and she is currently working on a home-grown startup in the digital tools space. She graduated from the Columbia School of Engineering and Applies Science in 2014 and is originally from Santa Monica, California.

This webinar series was designed to engage our social enterprise community during New York's Shelter in Place recommendation. Our intention is to continue to disseminate best practices for the social enterprise sector, as well as discuss the pressing social and environmental challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure vulnerable and marginalized community needs are still addressed.
