Social Venture Pitch Competition

with judges Casey Santiago '07BUS '07SIPA, Managing Director of Consumer Healthcare at Founders Factory, Sydney Thomas, Senior Associate at Precursor Ventures, and Adrianna Samaniego ’19BUS, Investor at Female Founders Fund


Join us to watch up to ten social entrepreneurs compete in a VC-style pitch!  After participating in a pitch workshop, the participants have had six days to take their communication skills to the next level. 

Each venture will have five minutes to pitch, followed by five minutes of questions from the judging panel of three prominent early-stage impact investors and experienced social entrepreneurs.

Judges Bios:

Casey Santiago '07BUS '07SIPA
Managing Director of Consumer Healthcare at Founders Factory

Casey is a seasoned entrepreneur and investor.  Before joining Founders Factory, she founded Kangu, a platform to crowdfund maternal health, in 2012, expanding prenatal health services by 80% and increasing cost recovery for hospitals by 75%. Subsequently she founded Kangu Collective, which works with start-ups and investors to scale health products and platforms. She also held roles as Executive Director at Global Innovation Exchange, Product Manager at Kiva, and Senior Consultant at Deloitte.

Casey received an MBA from Columbia Business School, an MA in International Affairs from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, and a BA in political science from Wellesley College.


Sydney Thomas
Senior Associate at Precursor Ventures

Sydney has spent the last four years with Precursor Ventures, an early-stage venture firm founded in 2015 and focused on classic seed investing.  Prior her current role, she worked as a VC-in-Residence with Pipeline Angels and spent several years in business development, operations and marketing roles. She also serves as an Advisory Board Member for INVANTI, LLC and for SkyDeck Berkeley.

Sydney received an MBA from University of California, Haas School of Business  and a BA in public policy studies from Duke University.


Adrianna Saminiego
Investor at Female Founders Fund

Adrianna recently joined Female Founders Fund, the pre-eminent early-stage fund investing in female-founded technology companies.  Before this role, she held invesment associate roles at various venture capital firms.  And from 2010-2018, Adrianna worked at Google where she co-created Google’s first ever Supplier Diversity program and founded a startup Emporium (B2B marketplace) within Area 120, Google's Startup Incubator.

Adrianna received an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA in business administration from University of Georgia - Terry College of Business.
