Columbia Business School's Social Enterprise Club is partnering with the Columbia Innovation & Design Club to host a “Social Enterprise Design Thinking Workshop” to help students 1.) learn about human centered design and 2.) understand where it is prevalent in Social Enterprise space. The workshop will introduce students to a framework for practicing human centered design through an interactive module guided by Adam Royalty, head of Columbia’s Design Studio. This is open for all students interested in understanding where there are opportunities to disrupt this space with Design Thinking, as they will hear about ways in which to engage with design and social innovation at Columbia.

Speaker Bios:
Adam Royalty
Designer-in-Residence at Columbia Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Design
Adam Royalty is the Designer-in-Residence at Columbia Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Design. He comes to Columbia Entrepreneurship from the Stanford Hasso Plattner Institute of Design the d.school at Stanford University. Adam is the founding DIR of the Columbia Entrepreneurship Design Studio. Since his arrival in the fall of 2014, he has been co-teaching “Launching New Ventures” and “Green House” with Professor Dave Lerner at Columbia Business School. In the 2015 Spring semester Adam is co-teaching a course aimed at helping students conceive, test, plan, pitch, and launch social ventures with Professor Sarah Holloway at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs.
Adam heads up The Columbia Entrepreneurship Design Studio offered by Columbia Entrepreneurship to the University community to use as a set of tools, methodologies, and resources for turning ideas into action. Adam and the design team teach young Columbia entrepreneurs how to use the methods and mindsets of design-thinking to understand problems more deeply and solve them in innovative ways.
The Design Studio supports:
- Early stage entrepreneurs who want to understand more about their customers and drive towards a seamless product-market fit
- Teams wanting to take an interdisciplinary approach to solving ambiguous problems
- Faculty and instructors looking to incorporate design-based experiential and project-based learning
