Carlton A. Brown
Founding Partner and Chief Operating Officer, Full Spectrum

Carlton A. Brown is a founding partner and Chief Operating Officer of Full Spectrum.  He is a 1973 graduate of Princeton University - School of Architecture and Urban Planning. He has also studied real estate finance at New York University.  After college he worked for architecture and planning firms until 1976, when he joined AT&T as a manager in the real estate division.  During his 10-year tenure at AT&T, he directed the development and construction of over $2.0 billion of real estate for the company.  His experience included: corporate planning, site acquisition, facilities development, project design and leasing for high performance laboratories, data centers and office facilities.

Mr. Brown has used his educational and corporate experience to shape Full Spectrum’s real estate development activities.  He has been responsible for the development and deployment of high performance and sustainable building technologies and strategies in Full Spectrum’s developments while ensuring that all projects meet appropriate performance and quality standards.  As part of the global movement toward sustainable development, in 1990, Mr. Brown led a multi-disciplinary that developed an approach for sustainable development projects in Cape Verde, West Africa.

Full Spectrum’s 1400 on 5th Avenue project was the only affordable housing project to qualify for the NYS Green Building Tax Credit and listed for LEED Silver consideration. The project also was named the Energy Project of the Year 2003 by the NY Chapter of the International Association of Energy Engineers.

Mr. Brown has served on several boards including the NY Chapter, AIA; the Business Resource & Investment Service Center (BRISC) of the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone; BEN Asset Group; and is the current board chair of 651 Arts.  He has received numerous commendations from various organizations for his leadership and civic engagement including the New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Brown has served on the NYC High Performance Building Task Force and the NYC Brownfields Task Force. In September 2006 Mr. Brown was appointed to Mayor Bloomberg’s Sustainability Advisory Board.
