At Nourish All, a nonprofit dedicated to improving food security and livelihoods in underserved communities in Kenya and Uganda, I contributed to diverse projects that enhanced operational efficiency and impact. I helped launch a kitchen garden pilot with the Dongriin Foundation in Uganda, equipping twenty‑two refugees with sustainable farming skills. I created four operational templates—project proposal, project report, contract agreement, and monthly activity report—to streamline program management and interactions with local partners. I drafted a major donor report, delivered a three‑hour business and finance training to Nourish All’s Kenya team, reviewed the strategic plan of the Hodari Foundation, redesigned a product label for a widows’ mushroom agribusiness, and helped refine the metrics the organization uses to communicate its impact. These projects built organizational capacity, empowered communities through agriculture and entrepreneurship, and strengthened donor relationships, directly advancing Nourish All’s mission.

My MBA provided valuable tools. An accounting course and participation in the ReEntry Acceleration Program, where our team developed accounting training for incarcerated individuals, enabled me to deliver accessible finance training and develop a clear income statement template for the Kenya team. Serving as a teaching assistant for macroeconomics and a global immersion program honed my peer‑to‑peer teaching skills, which I used to translate complex financial concepts into actionable lessons. Consulting experience through the Pangea Advisors project guided my design of operational templates to streamline processes. These experiences prepared me to propose innovative solutions, collaborate effectively with fellow interns, and lead the garden pilot with a focus on sustainable impact.

A key challenge was proactively communicating project updates. Although I delivered quality work on schedule, relying solely on scheduled check‑ins sometimes delayed progress. I learned that providing timely updates is critical when working on multiple projects with a dispersed team. Tailoring the business and finance training to the Kenya team’s needs also required balancing technical depth with practical applicability and seeking iterative feedback. Reviewing the Hodari Foundation’s strategic plan meant navigating complex organizational priorities with limited context, requiring thorough research and dialogue. Finally, managing partnerships, such as with the Dongriin Foundation, involved aligning timelines and expectations across cultures. These challenges strengthened my adaptability, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

This internship was transformative. Support from Samantha Koches and collaboration with my fellow intern Anyieth, a graduate in climate and society, inspired me. Their expertise and the cross‑cultural engagement taught me to value diverse perspectives and adapt to community‑specific needs. I gained experience navigating cultural and operational complexities in global nonprofit work, enhancing my stakeholder engagement skills. The experience reinforced my goal of integrating social impact into my consulting career at Boston Consulting Group and deepened my commitment to championing sustainability initiatives.
