Internship Description

Alexander Dimas ’26 interned with AC Power, a woman-owned solar development company that transforms contaminated landfills and brownfields into clean energy sites. AC Power’s mission is to reenergize communities by deploying solar projects on contaminated or underutilized properties. Dimas led market assessments for solar photovoltaic (PV) opportunities, developed expansion strategies, and conducted financial modeling to evaluate project viability. He supported the company’s growth initiatives and contributed to leadership discussions and cross-functional coordination to help scale AC Power’s renewable energy asset portfolio and strategic operations.

During my internship at AC Power I worked on market assessment and strategic planning for solar photovoltaic development. AC Power develops solar solutions on landfills and distressed properties, with a mission to scale renewable energy while repurposing underutilized land. I assessed new markets by evaluating economic incentives, local regulations, and demand for renewable energy. This work helps AC Power identify viable markets, expand its portfolio, and contribute to environmental sustainability.

My studies in strategic management, financial analysis, and market research were essential. I applied strategic frameworks to evaluate market dynamics and competitive landscapes. Financial analysis skills allowed me to assess project viability, including the impact of incentives, tax credits, and government policies on profitability. Market research techniques helped me gather and analyze data so that my recommendations were grounded in facts and trends. These skills enabled me to contribute to strategic planning sessions and advise on decisions that align with the company’s long‑term growth objectives.

Navigating complex regulatory frameworks across different markets was challenging. Each region had its own set of rules and incentives for solar projects, making it difficult to adopt a standardized approach. Understanding how these regulations affected project feasibility required thorough analysis. Coordinating among teams with diverse expertise sometimes caused delays; I addressed this by improving communication and creating clearer lines of action. The fast‑paced environment required me to prioritize tasks effectively and adapt quickly to new information.

This internship reinforced my belief in renewable energy’s potential to address sustainability challenges. I learned the importance of cross‑departmental collaboration and communication in driving a company’s strategic goals. The experience highlighted the need to consider both market dynamics and regulatory factors when making strategic decisions. Going forward, I aim to pursue a career that merges strategy, finance, and sustainability so I can help shape the future of renewable energy while creating positive environmental impact and business growth.
