Miriam
Katowitz
CBS '74, CFO,
Safe Horizon
Miriam Katowitz
is CFO for Safe Horizon a not for profit agency whose mission is to
provide support, prevent violence and promote justice for victims of
crime and abuse, their families and communities. Ms. Katowitz reports
to chief executive officer, Gordon Campbell. She joined the Safe Horizon
in June 2002.
Previously, Ms.
Katowitz was Chief Financial Officer and Director of Operations and
Strategic Planning at the 92nd Street Y. At the Y Ms. Katowitz’s
responsibilities included Accounting, Technology, Human Resouces, Facilities,
Theatre and Media Operations, and Strategic Planning. Prior to that
Ms. Katowitz was a finance division managing-director and 20-year employee
of the Republic National Bank of New York (now HSBC Bank USA). At HSBC,
she oversaw the bank's budgeting and planning, cost-allocation, customer-profitability,
and trading and treasury-reporting areas. She was also responsible for
creating and managing a corporate-wide information and profitability-management
system - a project that involved recruiting a team of 70 and working
with 50 business units around the world to integrate 40 distinct information
systems, 200 products and one million customer accounts.
Ms. Katowitz’s
professional affiliations have included the Long Island College Hospital
as Treasurer, Board of Regents; Chairperson, Operations, Investment
and Audit Committees, and Member, Executive Committee and Committee
on Trustees; board member Republic Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
She currently serves
on the board of the Brooklyn Public Library Foundation, the Leadership
Council of Alliance for Not for Profit Goverance (ANG) and is a member
of the Financial Women's Association, the Association of Certified Public
Accountants, and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Ms. Katowitz holds
an MBA from Columbia Business School and an undergraduate degree from
Goucher College. She resides in Brooklyn, New York.
